Apple Store Opening
Tyson's Corner, Virginia
May 19, 2001
Roughly a year after the debut of the Washington Apple Pi
Unsteadicam at MacWorld New York City 2000, this
much-despised innovation returns. Exactly how long was the
line to the Apple Store? We took our Unsteadicam (a
Nikon CoolPix 990 still digital camera with the ability to
take lots of still photos real fast to simulate a video
clip, without sound) and walked most of the length of the
line, starting near the rear and walking within 100 feet of
the front. A middle section of around 150 feet was skipped
(because the camera stopped recording and saved its buffer).
You'll quickly see why it is called Unsteadicam.
Requires QuickTime.

We start our journey almost at the back of the
line. It is 9:30 a.m., and these patient souls
won't see the inside of the store for almost two
hours. (QuickTime, 5.9 megabytes, 40 seconds)

After a brief gap of around 150 feet (the camera
stopped recording and saved the images to disk) we
pick up the trail again.. (QuickTime, 5.9
