Etch-A-Sketch Y2K Policy
Background: confounded by problems in making Windows 3.1, Windows
95, Windows 98, and Windows NT servers and workstations Y2K
compliant, technical personnel at one organization were presented
with an alternative: replace everything with Etch-A-Sketch units.
Note: EaS = Etch-a-Sketch
Let's just drop the whole Windows idea and go to Etch-A-Sketch. An
Etch-A-Sketch should be Y2K compliant.
I don't see a Y2K certification on their Web site.
They have a Web site?
Aren't you worried about storage? An Etch-A-Sketch might be Y2K
compliant, but storage would be nice.
You obviously haven't heard about the new Zip drive for EaS.
I'm game. Where do you plug in a Zip to an EaS?
To support a Zip Drive, you must be running EaS OS 3.2, which will
not run on the original EaS hardware platform.
I believe that there is a new beta 2 version for service pack 6 of
that OS which will allow you to save to the Zip, but you still will
not be able to read from it. They are working on a patch for the beta
version of the service pack to deal with the read Zip issue. Will
inform you when/if I hear more.
I don't know if the Service Pack 6 Beta 2 is Y2K compliant.
