Overview
A heavily redacted artifact, mirroring the 1983-07 — Membership Directory redaction pattern: cover, copyright notice, and a handful of ad pages survive; all member data has been stripped. The cover reads "The Cast of Characters: In Alphabetic Order, In Zipcode Order" — the directory's original organizational scheme. The 1984 directory followed the 1983 inaugural directory by approximately 15 months. Pi published these member directories irregularly through the 1980s, sometimes as standalone publications, sometimes integrated into the journal.
The surviving pages include: - Cover with "The Cast of Characters" title - Copyright notice: "Copyright 1984; Washington Apple Pi, Ltd." - Advertisement: Robins Equipment (Fairfax VA) for Apple II + Macintosh hardware (Macdrive Hard Disk by Techmar for Mac at $1675, MICRODRIVE II by TDS, Mac 3.5" disks at $4.25 each, EPSON ribbons, etc.) - Additional ad pages
What's missing
- Alphabetical member listing (likely ~500+ members by Oct 1984 — Pi was growing rapidly in the Mac era)
- ZIP-code organized listing
- Any name/address/phone/Apple-model data members had agreed to share
Highlights
The redaction pattern is consistent
The 1983 and 1984 Membership Directories both survived in heavily redacted form — same removal of personal data, same retention of cover + ads. Suggests deliberate post-hoc redaction (by wap.org's later digitization workflow) of all directory issues rather than partial preservation.
Mac-era ads
By Oct 1984, Mac peripherals (3.5" disks, Mac hard drives, MacPaint accessories) are advertised alongside Apple II gear. The hardware market is bifurcating; Pi members shop in both worlds.

- The Pi membership-directory format persists irregularly through the 1980s; cf. backlog notes on Pi membership counts of this era
- Listed as "Membership Directory" on the wap.org showcase index alongside the regular Vol 6 No 10
