NiftyTelnet 1.1

Accessing the TCS text-based bulletin board system using NiftyTelnet.

Note: Windows users should refer to similar instructions for PuTTY.

How To NotConfigure

One nice thing about NiftyTelnet is that it doesn't require any special setup. Right out of the box, it can access the TCS from anywhere on the Internet. Just enter the address "tcs.wap.org" into the Hostname field and press the Connect button. But with just a few extra clicks, you can improve the experience.

[New Connection window]

How To Fine-Tune

Highlight the "untitled" shortcut and click Edit. Adjust that shortcut's settings as shown, and click OK.

[Telnet Shortcut window]

The New Connection window will reappear with "TCS" highlighted in the Shortcuts box. To make this the default, click "Highlight This Shortcut On Startup".

Hereafter, to access the TCS via telnet, you can simply launch NiftyTelnet and click Connect. But even this can be improved, as follows.

How To Streamline

Press the Edit button to bring back the settings for the shortcut you just created. Press the Save As button, and save the shortcut as a document in the Apple Menu Items folder within your System Folder.

Hereafter, to access the TCS via telnet, simply connect to the Internet and choose this new item from the Apple menu. Presto!
