Took over Pi Presidency mid-2009 (2009-07 — V31 N04 cover photo: "Jay Castillo, Washington Apple Pi, President"). Served as President through mid-2012; succeeded by Diana King (2012-11 — V34 N04). Stepped down per his "Goodbye to the Old President, Hello to the New" piece (2012-07 — V34 N03).

Editor from 2011-01 — V33 N01 ("New Sheriff in Town") onward — held both President and Editor roles 2011-2012. Continued as Editor under King's presidency (2012-2015) and Goldman's (2015-2016). Final Editor of the Pi Journal — wrote the Editor's Page in 2016-03 — V38 N01, the last Pi Journal ever published.
