Highlights

★ Fire in the Valley reviewed — Robert C. Platt

Platt reviews Freiberger & Swaine's Fire in the Valley: The Making of the Personal Computer — the canonical history of the personal-computer industry. The book had only just been published in 1984; Platt's review puts Pi on early notice of what would become the standard Silicon Valley history.

★★ Officer restructuring takes effect

The May 1984 election created two VP roles (Programs + SIGs) instead of one. Tom Warrick — Pi SYSOP and the most prolific Mac author of 1984 — becomes VP-Programs, the first non-founder to take that role. Bob Platt becomes VP-SIGs. Nancy Little becomes Secretary (replacing Sarah Lavilla).

Lynn R. Trusal's debut — Lynn R. Trusal

Trusal becomes one of the more prolific Pi contributors through the late 1980s — sometimes signing with his "Ph.D." — eventually becoming a "far-flung correspondent" reporting from his postings (incl. Japan 1992). His first byline is here.

Mossberg's second 1984 Pi byline — Walt Mossberg

After his June 1984 AppleWorks review, Mossberg returns with a utility-programming piece. He would not become a Pi columnist until Feb 1988 ("Apple II News & Notes").
