Highlights
★★ Larry Kerschberg Director Confirmed
Larry Kerschberg is listed as a Pi Director in the masthead (l.kerschberg@wap.org). His tenure as Director begins by Nov-Dec 2008 at the latest (previously documented as starting Jan 2009 2009-01 — V31 N01). User-confirmed timeline correction.
★★ Jay Castillo Architects the Strategic Plan
Jay Castillo is "our man with the plan" (Jarecke's words) — Castillo is a newly elected Director who brings the planning experience that drives Pi's first formal Strategic Plan. The 5-member Management Committee does the strategic work. Plan being edited into a draft as of Nov 2008. Direct origin of the 2009-01 — V31 N01 "Pi Strategic Plan + Year of the Pi" article.
★★ Jarecke's "Last Year as Grand Poobah"
Bob Jarecke writes: "As I started my last year as the 'Grand Poobah of the Pi'..." — confirms Jarecke Presidency runs May 2006 – mid 2009 (~3 years total). Castillo's mid-2009 ascent (2009-07 — V31 N04) was the planned succession.
★ Treasurer Change
Thomas Carlson is now Treasurer (was Gabriel Roth in 2008-07 — V30 N04). Carlson moved from VP Publicity. Quiet but real BOD turnover mid-2008.
Pi Office Moved — Suite 701
Pi office moved from Suite 201 to Suite 701 at 12022 Parklawn Drive. Internal-building move. (American Plant Foods still landlord per 2007-11 — V29 N06.)
Sep 2008 General Meeting on iPhone + iPod touch
Apple's Smallest Computers — iPhone (Jun 2007) + iPod touch (Sep 2007) covered. App Store launched July 10, 2008; iPhone 3G shipped July 11, 2008 — exactly when Pi's August meeting was being planned.
Mossberg June Meeting Happened
Per the Correction: the Sep-Oct 2008 issue covered the June 28 Mossberg meeting (which actually happened — Kindle was misspelled there). So the 30th Anniversary Mossberg event of 2008-05 — V30 N03 preview did take place. We just don't have the Sep-Oct PDF.
OpenOffice Aqua — Jonathan Bernstein
OpenOffice 3.0 Aqua beta — native Mac OS X port (no X11). Pi catches the moment.
Combined Nov+Dec Meeting
Pi consolidates Nov + Dec General Meetings — Thanksgiving + Christmas conflicts. First time? Format Pi will use through the eJournal era.
Charters Closes the Print Era
This is the final print Pi Journal issue — V30 N6 ends the print run. 2009-01 — V31 N01 begins the eJournal era. Charters edits both eras.
